Arrow 4X04 Discussion: This show is becoming great again

arrow season 4 episode 4 review discussion

Arrow season 4 episode 4 was a really strong episode, with great character development that reminded me of the greatness of season 2. So let’s discuss Arrow season 4 episode 4!

Spoilers follow.

Our villain of the week on Arrow was Lady Cop! With Star City in constant demise and destruction, it makes sense for the city to birth some crooked cops. Lady Cop is a hero in the comics, and she will be reappearing on the show, so I’m sure we’ll see some redemption from her character later on. And although the corrupt cops were the villains this week, they helped to bring Lance and Team Arrow together.

For a while now Lance has been disgusted by Oliver and everything he does. But he’s also been disgusted at himself. Turns out when Lance started working for Darhk he didn’t know about his evil intentions, and by the time he did know it was too late to get out. But was it too late? Lance kind of just gave up, and Ollie made that clear to him.

The conversation between Ollie and Lance in the apartment was a really great scene that moved their relationship forward nicely. For a long while the pair of them have had some trust issues and couldn’t work together effectively, but now that everything has been put out in the open, they can finally start being a team again.

And that’s the way it should be. Watching their relationship grow since season one has been really interesting, and I’m glad that Lance and Ollie are finally at a place where they can trust and respect one and other.

Team Arrow has also come a long way. This episode showcased that everyone has their place and together they work smoothly. I especially love the father/daughter type relationship Thea and Diggle have. Seeing him as her bodyguard once again reminded us how far Thea has come since season one. Also glad to see Laurel use that Canary Cry a little more!

The Ray story arc is moving along slowly, hopefully Felicity will figure out what happened there after she listens to the recording.

We also saw Oliver use the show’s opening monologue in his announcement speech, and it fit quite nicely! It’s great to see Oliver use his public persona more now. It can be a little tiresome to only see brooding, angry Oliver.

Damien Darhk got a mysterious box at the end of the episode (what’s in the box???) oh and Sara ran away!

Of course next episode Sara will get a little help in the form of Constantine! It’s so exciting to see Constantine appear on Arrow, and his introduction is totally natural and fits in with everything that’s been going on. The producers make it seem like this is a one time only thing, but hopefully if his character receives a positive response, we’ll see more of him.

But as I mentioned this was a really strong episode of Arrow. The episodes that are a lot more character focused, and rely on the strengths of previously existing or developing relationships have always been the better ones.

Overall Arrow season 4 episode 4 was a great episode with a lot of character development. Definitely looking forward to seeing Constantine and Team Arrow meet next week!

  1. Took the words right out of my mouth! This was such a great episode! 🙂

And I really loved how everyone was having to deal with the same thing: broken faith. And out of all of them, Lance was the first one to rise and reclaim the faith of hope and justice. And what he said about saving the city by saving themselves was great! 😀

And, once again, we have Olly at a low moment, buoyed up by his sister! 🙂

Of course, I wonder about those interns, as they now have the Green Arrow for a boss and a chronic blood-lusty killer as their bosses. No chance of anything going wrong with that, eh?

How much you wanna bet Sara is going after Thea? It may have been Malcolm who killed her, but it was with Thea’s hands that he did so.

Speaking of, if Constantine can help Sara, might he be able to help Thea too?

    • Such a good episode! Ooh yeah she might go after Thea. And whilst Constantine is there he might as well help Thea, but it is interesting watching Thea deal with her rage and insanity herself

      • Indeed. So I’m having to wonder what could possibly make the difference where Constantine could help Sara, but could not help Thea. I have a couple idea about that. It could be an issue of progression, as Sara has neither come back to herself yet, nor has she managed to sate her blood lust, while Thea has done both. Or perhaps they can trick “Sara” into believing she’s killed Thea, without actually killing her, so the curse is broken, which option is unavailable to Thea. So there’s a couple ways it can be worked, but I’m excited to see how it all plays out. 🙂

  2. I know I’m getting my hopes up, but I’m REALLY hoping for Constantine getting revived somehow. Long shot, I know, but CW is doing REALLY well with their DC shows, so why not add one more to the mix? I’m already having nerdgasms over it! 🙂
